Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. - Psalm 119:105
So this morning at 5 am I set out to return from the Elmira airport back to Johnson City. I am not the best with directions but I was given one simple instruction...follow 17E. So as I pulled out of the airport I began immediately looking for signs that said 17. I got as far as Horseheads and for whatever reason I started to panic and thought I was going the wrong way. Having remembered a similar experience I had a year ago leaving the Syracuse airport where I ended up driving about 30 minutes in the wrong direction. So, I started doubting I had heard correctly and pulled off on the nearest exit I could find. Well, of course I discovered later I WAS going the right way. So as I pulled off the exit somehow I ended up on the back roads of Chemung County and even passed the Corning airport...don't ask how I do these things. *sigh*
Anyway, after I found out that 17E was indeed the direction to go I head back out looking for 17 signs again until I finally ended up back on 17E heading towards JC.
Well, when I got back home I started thinking about the Bible, God's Word. I started thinking about how if we don't know His Word, if we don't take the time to hide it in our heart, then it's like going through life without any signs to follow. The Word is our map! One thing was clear to me this morning, I had to follow signs that said 17E. If I didn't follow the signs I would be lost. And because I did detour from the correct sign I did indeed get lost, and in a very dark place I may add.
We in turn MUST follow God's signs, His map that He has given us in His Word. If we don't take the time to read it, study it, then we will be lost. And we must be careful of taking detours. Many times we are following God's Word and going in the right direction, but we let doubt or fear come in, and we end up taking a route we aren't suppose to.
But the great thing is the Bible says it is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. When we know His Word then we have direction! It also helps to calm us down when we get fearful. As I was in a panic this morning, Phillipians 4:13 popped in my head; I can do ALL things through Christ who gives me strength! I kept saying that to myself over and over again until I knew I was out of the woods and back on the right track again. Then I started singing, "My God is greater! My God is stronger! God you are higher then any other!" I think I sang that song for at least 30 minutes...
Anyway, how great our God is! As we travel down this road of life here on earth let us make sure we are reading the map, following the directions the Lord has given us. That way we will end at our destination!!!
